Transformation Of An Old Winery
Huashan 1914 Creative Park was originally established in 1914 as the Taipei Winery during the Japanese colonial era, producing sake, orchid liquor, and ginseng wine.
After World War II, the Taiwanese government took over the site and focused on rice wine and other distilled spirits. The distillery was known for its affordable rice wine and later expanded into fruit wines.
The factory was in operation for decades, and eventually fell into disuse in the 1980s when the wine production moved to a rural area.
In the 1990s, local artists and creatives discovered the abandoned buildings and began using the space for exhibitions and performances. By 1997, they started advocating for its transformation into a multi-functional arts and performance venue.
Their efforts led to extensive restoration work, and in 2007, the site officially reopened as Huashan 1914 Creative Park. The historic buildings were preserved and repurposed, turning the old factory into a vibrant hub for culture and creativity.
