Activities In Taipei Your Kids Will Love

If you’re planning a trip to Taipei with your family and want to find fun activities for your kids, you’re in the right place!

In this article, I’ll share helpful tips and personal recommendations for activities kids will enjoy in Taipei.

My 10-year-old son was born in Taipei. During his early years, we split our time between Taipei and Suzhou, where my husband and I worked. Since the flight was short, we often traveled back to Taipei to visit family and friends, especially during my son’s toddler and preschool years.

After our move to the United States followed by the pandemic, we took a 2-year break from traveling back to Taiwan. Now, living in the United States, we make it a tradition to spend every summer in Taipei.

With ten years of experience exploring Taipei with my son, I can offer a guide to activities kids of all ages will love. I’ve also included a section dedicated to toddlers and preschoolers, recognizing that younger children have different needs than school-aged kids.

Let’s go!

For Kids Under 5

If you want to take your toddlers or preschooler to a place where they can release their energy and have fun, I have some suggestions for you.

Outdoor playgrounds

There are many outdoor public playgrounds throughout the city. Here are several popular ones that we enjoyed when my son was a toddler.

1. Da’an Forest Park Playground

This ecological park feels like a forest. The roads are lined with trees like camphor, cajuput, ficus, and maple. There are big open areas for running, lots of playground equipment, and a giant sandbox. My son especially loved playing in the sandbox!

2. Xiangshan Park Playground

This new playground is conveniently located just outside Xiangshan MRT Station. Keep an eye out for tree frogs—they’re a special sight here, as it’s the only place in Taipei where you can spot them!

3. Rongxing Garden Park Playground

This playground sits right in the middle of a beautiful park. Don’t miss the stone slides! I have fond memories of sliding down them as a kid, and now, over 30 years later, my son enjoys those same slides too.

Family Restaurants/Indoor playgrounds (親子餐廳):

On a scorching summer day or a rainy day, outdoor playgrounds might not be the ideal choice. Instead, here are some great indoor playground options:

There is a niche of restaurants in Taipei designed specifically for families with young children. They offer kids’ menus, playgrounds, and fun activities just for kids. Some even have staff who organize games and activities, giving parents a chance to relax and enjoy their meal while the kids play.

When my son was a toddler, we visited many of these family-friendly restaurants. Unfortunately, some closed during the pandemic. To help you find options still open, I’ve put together a list of popular family restaurants you can enjoy.

  • Money Jump – link to restaurant’s website.
  • Beetles – link to restaurant’s IG.

Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館)

This memorial hall was built to honor Dr. Sun Yat-sen, known as the father of the Republic of China. Along with its historical significance, it serves as an educational and cultural hub, hosting art and cultural events throughout the year.

The hall is surrounded by a spacious park, making it a great place for kids to play and run around.

I have many great memories of this place. We lived nearby when my son was a newborn, and I would often take him to the park for walks in the baby carrier. It was great exercise for me, and we both enjoyed the warm winter sun. It’s also my favorite spot to view the iconic Taipei 101 building.

CKS Memorial Park

This memorial hall honors Chiang Kai-shek, the first president of the Republic of China. Like the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, it hosts music and art events. The surrounding open space is ideal for kids to run around and explore, making it a great spot for families to enjoy.

I have an in-depth article about CKS Memorial Hall if you are interested.

For Kids 6 and up

For school-age kids, there are more options to choose from.

National Taiwan Museum – Natural History Branch

If your child loves dinosaurs, a visit to the dinosaur exhibits is a must. One of the highlights is the complete skeleton of a brachiosaurus, which is displayed in the atrium and is sure to amaze both kids and adults. You’ll also find other fascinating exhibits that explore the world of dinosaurs in an engaging way.

For more details, check out their website for additional information on visiting hours and exhibits.

Miniatures Museum Of Taiwan

This place is perfect for both kids and adults, with so many tiny details to discover. You can easily spend hours exploring all the cool exhibits.

I took my son there on a hot summer afternoon in 2023, and we had a blast! I have an article about our experience at the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan if you are interested in reading more.

The National Taiwan Science Education Center

With over 600 ongoing exhibits, this place makes learning about science super fun and interactive! The museum is divided into different sections, with the main attractions on the upper levels.

Visitors can dive into hands-on exhibits, enjoy storytelling experiences, and discover something new at every turn. It’s an adventure for the mind and a great way to have fun while learning!

Suho Paper Memorial Museum

In addition to its paper displays, the museum features a demonstration handmade paper factory and offers papermaking classes. My son and I did the papermaking class when we visited in the summer of 2023, and it was so much fun!

Visitors can also find a variety of fine handmade paper items at the museum gift shop. For more details, here’s the link to their website.

National Palace Museum

I’ve been to the National Palace Museum a handful of times in my life, and it has changed a lot over the years. The last time I visited in 2023 with my son, I was amazed by how much it had updated.

They’ve added many interactive displays, and there’s even a special kids’ section where children can get hands-on experience with the exhibits. It’s clear that the museum is making an effort to make learning fun and engaging for young visitors.

Conclusion

Having visited many of these places with my son, I can confidently say that Taipei is a fantastic destination for families to create unforgettable memories together.

From the interactive exhibits at the National Palace Museum to the fun activities at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, there’s so much to see and do.

Whether it’s exploring dinosaur exhibits, enjoying outdoor parks, or trying hands-on papermaking classes, Taipei offers endless opportunities for kids to learn and have fun.
