Where We Spend Our First Few Mornings in Taipei

For the first few mornings after we land in Taipei, my son and I usually spend a couple of hours at a Komeda’s Coffee location near my parents (客美多咖啡).

We like it there. It’s comfortable, the food and drinks are good, and most importantly, it opens at 7:30 AM, much earlier than most other coffee shops nearby. Since we’re usually awake early from jet lag, Komeda is one of the few places we enjoy that’s open when we’re ready for breakfast.

The breakfast deal is good. You order one drink and they give you a thick slice of toast and an egg for free. I normally get a latte and a boiled egg. My son gets iced milk and egg salad.

The toast is what he comes for. I took him there for the first time, and after that, he was the one asking to go back. The toast is thick-cut, and he finishes it so quickly that one slice is often not enough.

You can order an extra slice on its own, but getting a second drink is the better deal because it comes with another slice of toast and another egg. I usually want a little more anyway, so that’s what we do. I end up with two boiled eggs and two cups of coffee.

I don’t really drink coffee at home, but I drink it in Taipei to get over the jet lag. It keeps me going for the whole day and the jet lag passes faster.

We stay one or two hours. I work on my laptop and my son uses his tablet. Then we walk home, and some mornings we stop at PX Mart (全聯) on the way to pick up a few things for the house.

Taiwanese breakfast is still my favorite, and that is what I would tell anyone visiting Taipei to eat. But those places are busy and you don’t sit for long. When we want a quiet table for a couple of hours, we go to Komeda.
